Etiquette 101: 5 Must-Observe Practices Inside the Cinema

Movie dates are exciting and fun especially if you’re with family or friends and about to watch a movie you’ve been wanting to see. But there are times when the experience is ruined by a fellow movie-goer who talks too much or refuses to silent their phone.

As much as you want to reprimand them with their actions, sometimes, you get shy and refuse to make a big deal out of it. So what’s left to do is to influence others by being a model cinema watcher!

Here’s a list of a few cinema practices you should and shouldn’t do.

#1 Arrive on time

It’s much easier to find your seat when you enter the cinema while the lights are still on and the movie has yet to start. This also keeps you from squeezing yourself along seat rows and disturbing other people from watching the movie. Besides, if you come late, you might miss a crucial part of the movie!

#2 Keep your phone silent and lower its brightness

Imagine this. You’re watching a horror film with the whole cinema anticipating the next big scare. Suddenly a phone rings with a funny tune. Please don’t be that person. Put your phone on silent mode before entering the cinema, and if you really have to check it during the movie, adjust the brightness setting to the minimum level so you won’t distract others with a beaming light.

#3 Talk, eat, and move quietly

Doing everything quietly so as not to disturb others is basically the golden rule inside the cinema. If you can open your chips before the movie starts, that would keep you from rustling and making noise.

#4 Respect other people’s space

Some people tend to forget that the cinema is a public place and not your own living room. Don’t put your feet up on the seat in front of you. If you have bags with you, place them on your lap or under your seat instead of the floor space in front of you. Someone might trip over your belongings when they pass by you.

#5 Throw your trash properly

After the movie, check your area for belongings you might have left behind, including your trash. Leave your seat clean and tidy, the same state it was when you arrived.
