Encore: 4 Must-Watch Year-End Performances | Maya.ph

December is the season for blockbuster hits in cinemas, but don’t miss out on awesome stage plays and concerts that are also running this time of year. We’ve put together a short list of performances to check out onstage before the year closes.

Try something different to make this holiday season that much more memorable!

 Hair: A Tribal Love-Rock Musical

Repertory Philippines stages the controversial broadway musical of 1968 with a fresh cast of talented local actors. The musical was born out of the hippie revolution, exploring the lives of activists speaking out against war and pushing the boundaries of socially acceptable behavior. They perform the risqué musical at Greenbelt Onstage until December 17, Sunday only. Get your tickets online now through the Ticket World website.

This all-Filipino band defined “birit” rock in the 90s, and they still hold the crown today. They have a massive local following, hooked on the high notes and big moments the band’s singers belt out with comfort and relative ease. See the girl-dominated band live at Resorts World Manila on December 20 for a one-night-only production.

This Tanghalang Pilipino performance decorates the Little Theater of CCP with Christmas cheer. It’s an interactive play written to educate young kids about the importance of financial management. It’s educational, funny, and grounded in Filipino family traditions. The play will run until the 17th of December, and tickets are available with student discounts from Ticket World.

A Christmas Carol

9 Works Theatrical returns to the Globe Iconic Ampitheater at Bonifacio High Street with this classic Charles Dickens musical adaptation. Experience the tale of love, time, and the renewal of both—set aptly one winter in Victorian England. Follow the bitter protagonist, Ebenezer Scrooge (Martin Faustmann), haunted by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future, as he rediscovers what it means to share in a Christmas miracle. The cast, crew, and set designers of this show create a wonderful production for families to see over the holidays.
